The SBCDSA will be occasionally highlighting some of the community groups that we are very honored to work with. And this first group may be one of our favorites:
After their six week “build season”, the Orcutt Academy (OA) High School Robotics team has finished their 2017 robot named “Antikythera,” which is the name of the first analog robot. Each team member, along with adult mentors, spent approximately 20 to 30 hours a week designing, building, and testing their robot to comply with FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) specifications.
Now, the OA Spartans, known as “Spartatroniks,” are preparing for the FIRST competition season. They will be participating in the Ventura Regional Competition on March 16 to 18, as well as the Long Beach Regional Competition on March 24 to 26. If their robot is part of the winning alliance at the end of either competition, Spartatroniks will have qualified for the World Championship Competition in Houston, TX on April 19-22.
Each year, Spartatroniks, a non-profit organization, has to raise the funds needed to build their robot and pay for travel, lodging, and entry fees for competitions. Obviously, this is a huge undertaking that relies on many partnerships with individuals, businesses, and organizations of various kinds.
The DSA is proud to sponsor Spartatroniks to support and continue to encourage the young minds of our future. We wish them luck during their competition season, and we look forward to their success
