Your DSA has been working hard to cultivate valuable relationships with local politicians and groups, so that the DSA could count on our elective officials to support Law Enforcement. The DSA has not taken positions in all elected races, but we would like for you to consider our recommendations and encourage the people you know to also support them.
Your DSA Board of Directors has endorsed the following candidates, and asks you to also support them:
Mike Stoker for State Assembly – District 37
Stoker has deep roots in Santa Barbara County but also brings the valuable knowledge that comes from his wide variety of public service over the last thirty years. His experience includes representing the second and fifth districts on the Santa Barbara Board of Supervisors, Chairman of the County Air Pollution Control District, Chairman of the California Agricultural Labor Board, Deputy Secretary of State, and most recently Southwest Regional Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Tom Widroe for Buellton City Council – District 1
As a public affairs consultant, Widroe helps businesses and public agencies throughout Santa Barbara County locate and hire the best people to deal successfully with government regulations. As executive director of the Santa Barbara County Taxpayers Association, he fought back against special interests that wanted to divert $27 million dollars from the Sheriff’s Operating budget. Public safety is his number one priority.

Luz Reyes-Martin for Goleta City Council – District 1
Luz is the President of the Goleta Union School board and for the last eight years has represented the Goleta Valley and Isla Vista on the Goleta Union School District Board. She is committed to preserving the character of the neighborhoods, safeguarding treasured open spaces, and delivering essential services to the residents.
James Kyriaco for Goleta City Council – District 2
As the first city councilmember to represent Goleta City Council, James is running for reelection. Some of his goals this year related to public safety include restoring deputy and motor positions to their pre-2008 recession levels, with subsidized childcare as an idea for recruitment and retention. James also heavily supports keeping school resource deputies on campuses.
Phebe Mansur for Santa Barbara Unified School District
Phebe is a graduate of UCSB, local business owner, and was a former Commissioner for the City of Goleta. She believes our schools need a new direction with a focus on more English, Math, History, Science, and vocational and technical educational classes to help them succeed in life. She is committed to safer schools for students and teachers and believes each campus should have an on-site resource deputy.
