In what neighbors described as a war scene, a major gas explosion and fire devastated a Hayward neighborhood early Thursday on December 11th, 2025.
What Caused the Hayward Gas Explosion?
According to Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) and fire officials, a third-party construction crew was digging in the road when they struck and damaged a gas line. Gas was released in multiple places. The explosion occurred after PG&E crews had already stopped the flow of gas. Presently it is unclear what triggered the explosion itself.
Timeline
ABC 7 News reports: Early morning, a construction crew struck an underground gas line. The construction crew notified PG&E of the damaged gas line by 7:35 a.m., and PG&E immediately dispatched teams to the scene. By 9:25 a.m., PG&E teams were able to shut off the flow of gas. About 10 minutes later, the released natural gas ignited and caused the explosion.
The Aftermath
Unfortunately, the explosion and subsequent fire injured 6 people and destroyed multiple structures. It is unclear why residents weren’t evacuated after such a major gas leak was discovered.
What Happens If You’re Affected?
Gas explosion events are tragic and damaging. They’re also highly complicated events involving multiple government agencies and investigations of liability. Injured parties are entitled to compensation for damages suffered in relation to the explosion, but it’s imperative that a knowledge attorney is employed to successfully navigate the different deadlines and preserve evidence.
